I just realised something really, really funny today.

And to the two people who mentioned it - thanks for saying so. Because the way you phrased it was so obvious, and now I know what's going on.

I actually knew nothing from before. But that's the past.

:)

And just in case the two of you know who you are, the fact is I'm not even anywhere near that point. I'm just glad(?) that you two are right there.

8:19 AM

Went for CIP yesterday with Joey and Valerie.
I felt guilty because the work wasn't that hard, we ate lunch on them (pizza and donuts!) and they gave us each teddy bears after it was over.

Teddy bears! I can add that one to my teddy bear collection.

Notice anything wrong in the previous sentence? I don't have a teddy bear collection.

Anyway, I got up super early today, and I'm feeling really wide awake and hyper. If you know me, that is rare.

I just hope Ms Loo and Mrs Lim receive and approve our activity.

PS I heard next year's classes are gonna have aircons! Then it won't matter which place of the class has good fans. Unless people don't want to sit in front of the aircon.

Anyway, first day of school, I'm going to grab the seat facing the front, if we get hexagonal tables like this year.

PPS I'm in 2A, land of trisc and trisc+hist. :)

Thoughts going through my mind:
Oh shit it's halfway through December, and I haven't finished a ton of homework.

Thursday, December 03, 2009 1:33 AM

What I hate about this holiday homework/ Why holiday homework should be banned/lessened.
1. Projects are part of some of the holiday homework. These projects are for grading in Term One. If it's to be graded in Term 1, shouldn't we do it only in term one? Also, the absence of lessons makes it hard for us to meet up. (Not sayin' that I want holiday lessons.)
Think of it this way: If I were to skip school just to plan and prepare for a trip overseas (leisure), would that be fair?

2. Teachers assign the "reasonable" amount of homework, say X pieces of homework with varying difficulty. X is multiplied by the number of subjects we have, which is about 5 to 10 (5 if you count the main subjects - LA, Chi, Math, Humans, Sci; 10 if you count everything - LA, Chi, Math A, Math B, Geog, Hist, SS, Phys Chem Bio.)
= much more homework than one can handle.

3. Teachers don't assign all holiday homework before the term is due. They don't make it clear what homework is given = confusion. They have to post it on Matrix2 a lot later than the end of the school term, which means less time to complete the huge amount of homework.

4. Assigning us topics from a Math book isn't really a good idea, since it took me several days to complete it (Sat down and did it straight). Also, the fact that the worked answers are available at the back of the book makes the homework pointless, since students can copy the answers anyway.

5. We don't know what our subject combinations are, yet. How do we know which pieces of homework to dutifully do, and which pieces of homework to skip? The advice would be to do them all. But given our schedules and the amount of homework, I don't think that's the right decision.

6. Holidays are called that for a reason. Let me give you the definition from Google:
  • vacation: leisure time away from work devoted to rest or pleasure; "we get two weeks of vacation every summer"; "we took a short holiday in Puerto ...

I don't think that homework qualifies as rest, or pleasure.

7. For the argument that we will forget whatever we learnt this year: it doesn't give teachers the excuse to assign that much homework, or release homework late. I understand the teachers' frustration when students return to school only to struggle with concepts learnt the previous year -- but teachers must also realise that if they want to assign homework, they should do it on time. If we have to pass up homework on time, they have to assign it on time, right?

The new, amazing fabulous wonderful computer is wasted on my dad since he doesn't know how to use WIndows 7 or Microsoft Office 2007. Darn.

Thursday, November 26, 2009 4:14 PM

So my dad got a new computer today.

I wish I had that :( I helped him install FF and create a backup disc, then he said that when I move into my new room he'd buy me that comp.

YEAH RIGHT. My dad is so full of promises he doesn't keep.

"This must be like the gayest musical ever made!"

The IT Crowd, S02E01, The Work Outing

That made me actually laugh out loud :)

I forgot one thing about Japan.

It's very technologically advanced, and I think I saw free wifi in Japan reaching up to 70MEGABITS/s. (download speed.)

If only I could bring my laptop there... :(

Anw there's gonna be a spa too. My mom is actually bringing her swimming costume. My eyes will bleed.

Ubuntu's Karmic Koala has already come out DAYS ago and I don't have it yet. Why am I still sitting here blogging about it??

Though I'll say I prefer Windows over Ubuntu because I'm not very familiar with it. Plus, my primary use of Ubuntu is to retrieve my files when Windows crashes all of a sudden.

OK -- Now I'm off to get it.

Does a school reprimand its entire student body if some show up late or don't take an interest in their coursework?

of course not.

I bought a 1.5TB HDD!!!

Finally! The thing I've been waiting to do since last year. Though, it's making some weird clicky noise, which makes me wonder if there's a crab inside it clipping its claws. It's ok, you don't have to understand that.

Pics coming out soon!

1TB VS the 320GB that I had:

The 1.5TB holds almost 5 times as much data as the 320GB drive, but is still smaller. (Granted, the 320GB one was bought two years ago.)

Since exams are over I took the liberty of cleaning up all my files.
I should have done this BEFORE the exams but no!

I should probably clean up my computer files as well.

Also, I went running. With my dad. And my brother.
Let's just say I'm proud of myself for choosing to go without anyone pushing me:)

From now on, I'll try to avoid eating meat. Just that if my family goes to a chicken rice restaurant for dinner, I can't avoid eating chicken right? So as far as possible I'll try not to eat meat.

i need to be a kinder person.

i need to be less mean.

there's a distinction: i can be less mean and not do anything, but i'm not necessarily kinder.

i can be kinder but i can be still mean as well.

I just had the flu and still am feeling the after effects. Runny nose during physics, which led to sore throat, which simultaneously led to fever and dizziness.

Managed to sleep the fever away and then woke up feeling really light headed today.

I kind of understand how my brother felt when he had to sit through the English Prelims exams with a fever of 39C.

Well, not really, since his fever was much much worse.

I kind of hope that my illness gets serious enough to get me excused from the whole of the FYEs. Then they'll just take my awesome JCT marks as promo marks.

I love my JCT marks, except for the E and F for Chinese and Humans.

I'm feeling weakish now.
Goodbye.

Sunday, October 04, 2009 5:11 PM

Today was salary day.

After my dad handed me my allowance, he started going on about how I was expected to raise him and my mom after they retired. Apparently my brother and I were supposed to pay the house, bills, and give them allowances. Basically, whatever they're doing for us now.

I was kind of shocked, because well. It was so unexpected. Plus, I was midway revising proteins, and after the talk I kinda forgot what I was doing.

Saturday, October 03, 2009 11:33 AM

Something huge has been happpening in the family. Something to do with my mom, my dad and me. My brother's still in the dark.

It's sucking up my time, but I know my mom needs me to be there.

Anyway. Our art teacher (mr heng?) brought us to the place where the art students were showcasing their pieces, and it was AMAZING.

I might even consider buying one of them, if they were for sale. That's how good they were. It was... brilliant.

Due to some judging thing, I cant post the pics until Nov. Or Dec.

Side note: I can't wait for the japan trip!

Is it, is it really.
It's so true.
